MSHB and ELU-series low-noise microwave amplifiers with limiter

The modules are designed to be built into receiving units of P-18, P-19, P-35, P-37, P-40,ST-68 (19G6, 36D6), MRL-5, 9A-310, MR-123, MR-145, “Osa”, MR-220, MR-302, MR-310 radars and PRV-13, PRV-16 and PRV-17 height finders instead of traveling-wave tubes (TWT).

They may be also used in other radars operating in the frequency range 0,1 to 10 GHz.

The operating frequency range of these modules corresponds to that of the replaced TWTs (amplifiers).

Minimum time to failure of all the modules is 5000 hr

Mounting dimensions of the modules correspond to those of TWTs, their overall dimensions don’t exceed those of replaced TWTs.

The mounting of the modules into radar receiving units gives the following advantages:

  1. 5 to 10-fold increase in minimum time to failure of receiving channels.

  2. 2.2 to 6 dB (in some cases 20 dB and more) increase in receiver sensitivity.

  3. Radar maintenance is considerably simplified since there is no need of amplifier (module) adjust-ment during radar operation.

  4. Noise figure of the modules does not increase within 5000 hr operation while that of TWT starts rising after 200 hr operation and can increase 2 to 3-fold within minimum time to failure.

  5. The modules are not sensitive to magnetic fields.

  6. Power consumption is reduced.

  7. The price of the modules is considerably lower than that of TWTs.

   The mounting of the modules requires no substantial field changes of radars and may be carried out by operating personnel. At customer’s wish the primary mounting of the modules as well as the training of operating personnel may be carried out by ELSYS specialists. The subsequent module replacement, if necessary, is carried out by the customer on his own.

   At customer’s wish ELSYS can in the shortest time design and manufacture low-noise microwave amplifiers with limiters in the frequency range up to 18 GHz as replacement for other TWTs and amplifiers, with parameters different from those listed above, for equipment in use (“Pechora”, PRV-9, PRV-11, MRL-1, MRL-2, K-66, “Buk”, “Osa”, TRLK-10, TRLK-11, ARLK-10, ARLK-11, naval radars MR-320, MR-350, K-12, “Monolit” and others) as well as for the newly designed radars and systems.
